Doctors

Dr Peter Savill

Dr Savill is a community cardiology specialist and clinical lead for the Mid Hampshire community cardiology service. He trained as a GP and worked in Hampshire until he left general practice in 2018. He has been instrumental in the development of community cardiology services in the Wessex region and launched the Mid Hampshire service in 2016. He has worked in the cardiology department at Southampton Hospital (UHSFT) since 2002 where he currently works in the Heart Valve Clinic and continues to work for the Southampton Community Cardiology Service which he developed and launched in 2004.

 

His main interests are in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and the development of community cardiology services. He is an accredited member of the British Society of Echocardiography, a member of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, British Society of Heart Failure and British Heart Valve Society where he also served on council from 2020-23.

Dr Chris Arden

Dr Arden is a GP near Winchester, Hampshire. He also works in a community cardiac clinic in Southampton as a GPSI in cardiology, assessing patients with suspected heart failure, atrial fibrillation, palpitations, hypertension and valvular heart disease. He does a weekly stress echo clinic at Southampton General Hospital and has BSE accreditation in echocardiography.

Chris was previously Editor in Chief of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal, he is a member of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, British Society of Echocardiography, British Society of Heart Failure and British Heart Valve Society. He is on the editorial board of the British Journal of Cardiology.

Dr Anirban Pal

Dr Pal has extensive experience running Cardiology clinics for the NHS across a number of different areas. In addition to having full BSE accreditation in Echocardiography, he is also a GP who is passionate about pre-emptive diagnostics and cardiovascular screening. 

He believes that improving access to screening can deliver earlier diagnoses and therefore better outcomes for his patients. Furthermore, his dual expertise in Cardiology and General Practice provides a uniquely holistic perspective on the management of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiac Physiologists

Helen Tatner

Helen qualified as Cardiac physiologist in 1989 from St Mary's Hospital Portsmouth. She has worked in non-invasive & invasive Cardiology, preferring the one to one non invasive clinic environment with patients. She enjoyed 15 years working in the echocardiography industry before returning to clinical practice.

She has a particular interest in ECG's and is member of the society of cardiological science & technology.

Her hobbies include all types of fitness, (Qualified UKA Athletics coach) reading & travel.

Joanna Maxted

Jo has British Society of Echocardiography adult TTE accreditation and is a member of the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists.
